What a bloomin' cheek!

Dale
Groundsman, Dale Sharkey views the damage.

Guzzling geese at Brooke Weston have munched on thousands of plants that made up a centerpiece floral display. Head groundsman, Paul Twamley and his team spent hours arranging 2,250 bizzy lizzy plants to replicate the College's new logo. Now just six weeks later marauding geese indulged in a bit of fowl play and just a few bare stems are all that is left of their handiwork.

The flock of about ten Canada geese normally inhabit the College's conservation area and lake, but strolled around the front for their sneaky snack. The pesky birds just polished off only the red and white bizzy lizzies, leaving the colourful lobelia, geraniums and marigolds in neighbouring beds untouched. Paul said: 'I'm hoping that the flowers, which are quite hardy, may start flowering again. Otherwise we may restock the border with hardy, geeseproof shrubs to deter the blooming birds!'
