Bulb planting
Brooke Weston's recipe for spring colour.
Ingredients:
- 4000 bulbs (daffodils, bluebells and snowdrops)
- Half of Year 8
- 9 staff members
- A few Year 13 students.
Preparation:
Ideally carried out in October, this recipe should take about an hour and should be repeated (using a fresh batch of Year 8s!) after a fortnight.
Method:
Take 90 Year 8 students. Add coats, wellies and sprinkle liberally on the conservation area. Blend well with the staff and Year 13s to make roughly identical groups. Split the spades between the groups and divide the bulbs into eight portions. Apply each portion to a carefully dug and fertilised area. Cover liberally with soil and allow to mature undisturbed for several months at a temperature around 0 degrees C. Garnish with a bit of spring sunshine from February to April and enjoy!
