Our founders
Hugh de Capell Brooke
Garry Weston
Hugh de Capell Brooke is a local landowner who donated the site and a substantial cash underwriting to ensure the building began. He has, with his family, committed more land to complete the environmental developments around the College, including the site for the Newman library. A strong supporter of the College, Hugh continues to take a very active interest in the achievements of all our students.
Garry Weston was chairman of Associated British Foods. He died in February 2002 and is remembered for his unfailing support for the
College, of which he was always very proud. His generosity extended beyond the initial sponsorship; he supported the construction of the all-weather pitch, the mathematics and IT block and the magnificent Newman library.
The Weston family continue to be strong supporters of the College.
Our governors
The Governing Body is mostly made up of local people who have a genuine feel for the needs of the community that the College serves. There are three Parent Governors who are elected for a period of three years. One vacancy becomes available each year so that a new Parent Governor is elected each September. Parent Governors are expected to communicate with the Parents in Partnership and can only remain a Governor while their child is a student at the College. The Foundation Governors are nominated by the Sponsors. Community Governors are elected because of their particular interest in local education matters.
