Making a (hyper) Link
Links to and from webpages or files like a Word
document for instance are called hyperlinks and essentially
they are always the same.
Hyper links are usually text (but can be images) and
are usually distinguished by being blue and underlined
text.
This is what a hyperlink looks like
Anyone familiar with using the internet will know
this. But did you know you can quite easily create
links inside the Learning Library website?
Step 1 - The Problem
The problem is I want to create a link from my lesson plan to say, a Rubric
I have already created.
Step 2 - The Magic Text Box
In the lesson plan form there are a number of text boxes to fill in. Some of
these text boxes will allow you to enter text to create a link they are the
larger text boxes know as "text area" and they look like this:
If you want to you can type inside this box. Try it
if you don't believe me. This one doesn't do anything
and you can't break it.
Step 3 - Making a link from
your text
The following text area contains text you may enter in the Learning Library.
To make this into a link we add the following text
highlighted in red:
Please find my Rubric here.
a web address here will
be replaced with the address of the page you're linking
to. However it has to be exactly as shown or it will
not work.
Things to remember:
- There are two parts to a link both contained with
brackets < >
- The opening bracket always contains
- The closing bracket always contains
- You must add an address in the opening bracket
Step 4 - Finding and Adding
the address
A web address (or a URL - Uniform Resource Locator) can be found in several
ways:
for instance the URL for this page is:

http://www.brookeweston.org/pages/learninglibrary/hyperlinks.html
I used copy and paste to write the above text it save
me typing and ensures it's correct.
Now what we want to do when we have found our URL
is copy and paste into our link.
Step 5 - Pasting into the link
Once I have my link copied I can now paste it into the text area, some links
may be small and others may be several lines in length, don't worry about
it, if copied correctly they should all work.
Once pasted into the lesson plan form click the submit
button and view your lesson plan you should have a
link in blue underlined text.
Step 6 - Review
Review the lesson plan and check the link works.
