Science Showcase 2007
So much of our everyday life is underpinned by science and technology; society looks to the scientists and technologists to interpret the world we live in, to provide the evidence upon which policy decisions may be based and to provide solutions for the issues that face us. However there is now a significant shortage of people with the skills necessary to meet the scientific challenges of the future; as educators we must recognise and respond to this situation and do all that we can to give our students the encouragement and the education that they need to enable them to pursue careers in these important disciplines.

Brooke Weston College is therefore delighted to be participating in Showcase Science 2007. With a curriculum biased towards science and technology the College has always been a strong supporter of these subject areas. In this high performing state funded secondary school well established academic programmes are augmented by opportunities for students to work with local industry on collaborative research and development projects.
Showcase Science 2007 has already widened the horizons of our students who participated with those from other local schools in planning the event. It has given them a valuable insight into project management and into the complexities of turning a proposal into a reality. The exciting programme that they have produced will, I am sure, excite, stimulate and extend the thinking of all who attend and make a real contribution to encouraging the young scientists of the future.
