Manga evening

Manga
Manga Books

One of the fastest growing crazes in publishing is taking centre stage at this year's Brooke Weston's Book Week. Manga, illustrated Japanese cartoon strips, have been growing in popularity in the UK over the past decade and now, publishers, Tokyopop, will be visiting the College for a manga-inspired evening with games consoles and other attractions to add to the excitement.

The manga evening is just one of a series of activities organised by Librarian, Charlotte Heppell. Other events include special assemblies, the eagerly anticipated Year 9 book quiz and creative writing workshops led by local author Steve Bowkett. Departments from around the College will be getting involved as well; the English department are hosting a quiz and taking part in the creative writing sessions while DT are set to repeat their popular 'pop up books' project with Year 8.

All years are invited to take part in the manga evening so make a date for your diary now. There will be competitions for the best manga-inspired artwork – just bring along your picture on the night, or even dress as your favourite manga character for the evening. Tokyopop will be bringing along the latest Nintendo Wii and there will be Japanese food and plenty of competitions to keep students amused. To get inspiration there are lots of books on how to draw manga figures available now in the library.

If you want to attend the Manga evening, are bringing artwork along, or even dressing up for the occasion, please email Mrs Heppell so she can get some idea of how many people will be involved. Please let her know by Tuesday 29 May if you are attending the evening which will run from 5 to 7pm on Thursday 31 May.
