Simon Reid
Student Simon Reid has been offered a four-year apprenticeship at a successful local company. Timsons, who manufacture and supply printing presses worldwide run an apprenticeship scheme and Simon, along with another student from Brooke Weston, have been selected to join this year's intake.
The apprenticeship scheme was advertised in the Evening Telegraph and Simon had to pass a multiple choice exam, practical test and interview before being selected. As well as working three and a half days at Timsons he will also go for day release at Tresham College to study for further qualifications. Simon, who is taking GCSEs in Design Techology, maths, science and other subjects, said: 'For four years I'll get to work in all the different departments and workshops getting a feel for what they do in each place. Once I've finished I'll work in the department I'm best suited to. It's a great opportunity and the company make massive presses, they even manufactured the ones to print the Harry Potter books!'
