Celebrate The Big Read at Brooke Weston From Monday 3rd November, we
will be starting a celebration of the BBC’s Big Read. It will
run over the course of three weeks.
We have a selection of extracts from the Top 21 Big
Read List for you to listen to here on the Big
Read Jukebox
For over a week now, the students at Brooke
Weston have been voting for their favourite books
or series of books. Here
is the top ten.
On Monday week 2 Term 1
The Big Read will be announced in assembly and throughout the week staff
and students will be invited to read and record extracts from the top
21 books to be put on the College website.
Monday-Friday week 3
Term 2
Students will be handed a slip to fill in during tutor time, which will
ask for their own personal favourite book and to explain in less than
fifty words why they have chosen it.
Monday-Friday week
4 Term 2
The ten most popular titles will be announced and each book will be given
a student advocate to sell it, via the website, to the others.
Voting slips will be available in the library for the students to say
which of the top ten they favour.
Monday 24th November
The top three titles will be announced in assembly and made available
in the library.On Wednesday of each week, we will be holding a themed
reading day In the library, which are as follows:
- 'Coming of age' Stories that deal with finding
yourself and your place in the world.
- 'Family Affairs' Families- can’t live with
them, can’t live without them...
- 'Forever Friends' Making friends and losing friends-the
trials and tribulations of friendship
The Big Read quiz will be available in the library
as well as online at The
Big Read website.
