Christmas Showcase

A new event took place this year to get the staff, students and parents at Brooke Weston in a festive mood. The Christmas Showcase was held on Thursday 14 December and provided an opportunity for students in all years to show their talents in music and drama.

Christmas Disco

Students at Brooke Weston let their hair down in fine style at the annual Christmas disco. DJs Luke Headland and Simon Reed provided the entertainment for the lower school event on Tuesday of week eight, with the upper school getting their turn a day later.

Beanie Goods

Chirstmas presents products have been produced and sold by enterprising students in Year 10, under the company name of Beanie. Producsts produced include: Goody Bags, pouches full of fair trade sweets and chocolates. All profits will go towards buying the things that were shown in miss ainscow's assembly? e.g. the tap, toilets, etc. Their catalogue is listed below, Beanie are also holding a competition to win Fair Trade goodies.

Yasmin's Tree

A flowering cherry tree has been planted at Brooke Weston in memory of student Yasmin Penny. Yasmin, aged 15, died in November. She had suffered from cystic fibrosis and had undergone a liver transplant. Her mother, aunts and uncle attended the planting which was carried out by Lauren Robinson and Mara Grkinic from Yasmin's tutor group of 11E.

Gymnast, Josh Pickering is setting his sights high, aiming to compete in the 2012 Olympics. Josh is so good at his chosen sport that despite only starting training 18 months ago he has already won two gold medals in floorwork and a tumble competition.

Ice Skating

On November 24, 48 year 11 students ventured forth to try their hands at Ice Skating. Under the guidance of Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Claydon, Miss Korthals and Miss Gonda, the students were able to strut their stuff. To be honest….not all students fell. The catch phrase of the night was, 'when you fall, do it with dignity and be sure you smile.'

Tate Visit

Year 11 students got more than they bargained for on a visit to Tate Modern with a brief encounter with the Queen en route! HRH was being chauffeured in an official Bentley flanked by police outriders when she passed within feet of the coach carrying the Brooke Weston students.

Remembering Yasmin

Fairthorne Manor

Each year around 190 Year 7 students visit the YMCA's Fairthorne Manor near Southampton. For four days they meet and conquer a series of challenges – walking across a rope bridge, scaling a climbing wall, paddling a canoe and kayak and even sliding down a zip line.

Climate change and the media

10/10/2006
Sixth formers got a chance to air their opinions on climate change and global warming as part of a documentary series being put together by Radio One. The radio station is focussing on issues that affect young people and so nine sixth formers from Brooke Weston were canvassed on their opinions. Carroll Weston, a producer at BBC Radio Northampton came along to record the students' views and the resulting sound-bites will be sent to Radio 1 to be included in the final programme.

Teacher Matt Clasper loves sport so much that he made a major career change just to teach at a more practical level. Mr Clasper, who has formerly lectured Higher and Further Education students wanted to get out on the sports field and teach rather than lecture from the confines of a classroom.

The school project in Gambia that Brooke Weston is helping to support is making good progress. The College donated over £2,500 to Brian and June Cox's project to build a primary school in the Gambian countryside. Already the building is taking shape with the foundations and first levels of concrete blocks erected, but it will still be a year before it is up and running...

Immunisation
